What is a WordPress theme and why have you designed them?

A WordPress theme is a series of files that provides a uniform appearance for a website. It enables new content to be added to the website without any coding being required and ensures that any changes apply to every appropriate part of the website.

One of my hobbies is designing WordPress themes for myself and organisations I am involved in, I have designed these themes to enable Scouting webmasters (or potential webmasters) who don’t have the technical skill or time to develop a website for their Group, District, or County etc. to still have a pretty website.

How do I install the themes?

To install the theme, first download it from this website. Then go to Appearance > Themes > Install Themes > Upload and select the zip file. Once it has been uploaded, then click Activate.

How can I prevent pages from appearing on the bottom navigation bar?

To prevent pages from appearing in the navigation bar, find out its page ID and enter than number into the header.php file just after “exclude” in the piece of code below, replacing the hashtags:

<?php wp_list_pages('sort_column=menu_order&title_li&exclude=##'); ?>

How can I change the title text to an image?

To add a header image, upload the image to your website and then make the changes below to header.php:

Delete:
<div class="right">
<a href="<?php echo get_option(‘home’); ?>/"><h1><?php bloginfo(‘name’); ?></h1><br />
<div align="right"><?php bloginfo(‘description’); ?></div></a>
</div>

Replace it with:
<div class="right">
<a href="<?php echo get_option('home'); ?>/"><img src="IMAGE LINK"></a>
</div>

Why aren’t my News posts appearing on the front page?

The posts need to be in a specific category with the ID 1 to appear on the front page. In WordPress, go to Posts > Categories and rename the existing “Uncategorized” category. Then go to your posts and ensure that they are assigned to this category.

I’m using a static page as my front page, but now I’ve got two Home page links! How can I fix this?

There are two ways. Either add the page ID of the static page you are using as he home page just after exclude in the header.php code below:

<?php wp_list_pages('sort_column=menu_order&title_li&exclude=##'); ?>

Or delete this piece of code from header.php instead:

<li><a href="<?php echo get_option('home'); ?>/">Home</a></li>
